                                                                              FAQs

1What is a Word Play Party?
It is a private party that provides information and support to parents or other caregivers and sells board books for babies.  It takes place in your home or elsewhere.

2. Can you give some examples.
A Word Play Party is a casual get-together. It can involve adults and their children, or adults only. You could host anything from a simple gathering with cookies or incorporate it into a baby shower, a picnic, a potluck, a family reunion, a cookout, a breakfast, etc. While we can provide you with ideas, the style of party is completely up to you.

3. What happens at a Word Play Party?
People gather to have a good time while celebrating the potential that all babies have – yours included! A trained Early Learning Advisor runs the party and leads the group in a series of games and activities designed to inform you about what a baby’s brain needs, and what you can do to help babies grow best. You’ll find out about the importance of sharing books with babies, and what that means: you how to do it, when to do it, and with what kind of books. We will also sell you the best books for infants and toddlers that are available in the market today.

4. Who organizes it?
When you call to request a party, your local Early Learning Advisor will help you plan it all out. You will be guided every step of the way with our checklist of suggestions, and you'll be provided with invitations for use as email, on social networks, or sent in the mail.

5. Is there a particular time or day the party should be held?
A Word Play Party can be held in the morning, afternoon, or evening. It just depends on your schedule and what you want to do.

6. How many people should I invite?
A Word Play Party can be big or small, at least 10 people or more is best. Organizations with large groups such as congregations, PTA’s, clubs, and civic organizations can also host events. See our Presentations, Programs, Workshops and Trainings page for more information.

7. Who should I invite?
Members of your extended family, grandparents, other extended family members, friends, neighbors, baby sitters, nannies, and anyone else who will be interacting with and caring for your baby.
We also suggest that if you have your child cared for at a center, or in a  home-based daycare program, that you encourage them to call us to arrange their own party or program.

8. What if I’m new in town, don’t have family near, or don’t really have a list of people to invite.
If you don’t have a local network of folks who also have babies, we can help! We can organize a group of other parents with a similar situation, or we can contact hosts who are in the planning stage of their party and see if they have room to include you.

9. You mentioned selling books at the party. What is the cost of the books?
We offer a selection of over 100 books, with prices that range from $4.95 to $24.95 each. You will want to buy several, but don’t have to spend a lot of money.

10. What else should I know?
We encourage participants to consider buying one or two books to give to charity. For every book they donate, Words To Grow On will donate one. At the end of the party your group can decide where the donated books will go; we can offer suggestions as well. When the books arrive we encourage you and the others to help deliver them to the charity.
